Changelog
Every release, in plain language. KimberPlay updates itself — when a version ships, the app offers it on launch, and your library, favorites, and history always carry forward.
1.17.0 · October 21, 2026
- KimberPlay speaks 23 languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), German, French, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Turkish, Czech, Cornish, Greek, Russian, Kazakh, Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and Tagalog. Pick one in Settings › Language, or let KimberPlay follow your TV.
- Arabic and Hebrew read right to left everywhere, the guide included. Left and right on the remote follow the screen.
- Ask Kimber understands requests in your language: "películas de terror de los 80", "日本語字幕 アニメ", "Krimis aus den 90ern in 4K".
- Dates and times use your language's format, and plan, trial and purchase messages appear in your language.
- The language picker shows every language on one screen.
- Buttons stay highlighted after you press them, so you can see where you are after adding a favourite or marking something watched.
- Button labels that were too dark to read on some screens and dialogs are now clear.
- Fixes a crash on older Fire TV models (Fire OS 5).
1.16.1 · October 17, 2026
- A library update keeps going when you press Home or switch apps. Fire TV used to close KimberPlay within seconds to free memory, and a big update then had to start over the next time you opened it.
- Checking a large library for new movies and shows is faster: rows that did not change are no longer rewritten.
1.16.0 · October 17, 2026
- Shows from Xtream providers now load their episodes when you open them, the way other IPTV players do. A large library takes a fraction of the space on your TV, syncs much faster, and a show opens with the episodes your provider has right now.
- Your favourites, watch history, resume points, After Dark choices and title fixes move over automatically.
- If a provider mixes up its shows, KimberPlay notices before switching and keeps the previous way for that provider.
- Your own tuner or media server works: HDHomeRun, Tvheadend, ErsatzTV and Tunarr on your home network. Confirm the server once when you add it.
- Guides from listings services like Schedules Direct now line up with channels named like "2.1 KATU", by call sign or channel number.
- Tunarr's HLS mode plays, and playlist addresses with a username and password sign in to the server.
1.15.2 · October 16, 2026
- On a TV that was nearly full, KimberPlay could fill the storage completely for a few minutes after it opened, which made Fire TV warn about low storage. Leftovers from an interrupted import are now removed a little at a time, and the space comes back.
- The daily storage clean-up now runs reliably, including on TVs that keep KimberPlay open for weeks.
1.15.1 · October 16, 2026
- Updating on a TV whose storage is completely full now clears KimberPlay's own picture cache first, so the update always finishes and the app opens.
1.15.0 · October 16, 2026
- Big playlists take much less storage on your TV. A large library is hundreds of MB smaller after the update, and movies and shows your provider removed are cleaned up after 30 days instead of piling up.
- Settings › Recording & Storage shows what KimberPlay keeps on your device and how much space is free, with a button to clear the artwork cache.
- Search finds titles from more than one word, like "haunted hill".
- Channel up/down and favourites are much faster on large libraries.
- A provider that answers only partly can no longer empty your library or guide.
- Adult channels stay inside After Dark everywhere, and playback stops when you leave the app.
- The Live TV side panel no longer cuts off its Favorite and Multi-view buttons.
1.14.0 · October 5, 2026
- News from the KimberPlay team now reaches your TV: a short message appears once on Home, and every current message stays in Settings › Messages.
- Older Fire TV sticks no longer crash on movie and show pages, in the Sports hub's local stations, or when closing a multi-view tile.
- A timed recording that Android refuses to start now shows a notification instead of closing the app.
1.13.0 · September 28, 2026
- Movie and show pages now suggest what is actually related: the rest of the franchise in order, more with the lead actor or from the director, and the titles most like the one you are looking at. A kids' film never leads to horror.
- Shows get suggestions too, right after the last episode.
- Sports hub finds the local channel carrying a game: the teams' home stations first, then your own TV market (set it in Settings › Content & Filters), then the nearest city when a team's city has no station of that network.
- Movie and show pages show your provider's real genre instead of the folder name.
- A background library refresh no longer holds up the app while it saves a large library, and starting your own sync stops it straight away.
1.12.0 · September 19, 2026
- In-player channel list: larger text, a progress bar for what is on now, and a clear highlight for where your remote is, separate from the channel that is playing.
- Mini guide opens on the current programme, keeps its place while you browse, and has an Open full guide button.
- Cloud Sync is now off until you turn it on in Settings › Backup & Restore. A choice you made yourself is kept; if you never touched the setting, it is now off, so turn it on again to keep syncing.
- Library refresh checks your provider quickly and imports only when something really changed, with far less memory on large playlists.
- Home: holding OK on Continue Watching is reliable, and only live channels appear as live previews.
- Fixed a News hub crash when a publisher retitled a story, and Cloud Sync never replaces your library with a cloud backup it cannot read.
1.11.0 · September 10, 2026
- Your library keeps itself fresh: KimberPlay checks your provider for new movies and shows after launch and every 12 hours, downloads only when something changed, and never while you are watching. Home says when the library was last checked and what arrived since your last visit.
- Settings › Playlists › Automatic library refresh sets the cadence (off, 6, 12 or 24 hours); OK on the Home status line checks right now.
- New Movies and New Episodes now treat a big drop from your provider as news instead of hiding it as an import.
1.10.0 · September 7, 2026
- Phone remote (Plus): scan a code in Settings › Phone remote and your phone becomes the remote — a D-pad, typing straight into Search, and a 'send to TV' box that plays any stream link on the television.
- Multi-view presets: save a layout from the screen options and bring it back in one press; the last session is always one press away too.
- Playlist group headers such as '## SPORTS ##' no longer appear as channels in Live TV, the guide or multi-view.
1.9.0 · September 7, 2026
- Multi-view (Plus): watch up to four live channels at once. Open it from a channel's preview in Live TV or from the player's options; the D-pad picks which screen has the sound, OK goes full screen, holding OK changes, adds or removes a screen.
- Buy or extend from any screen: the paywall and Settings show QR codes for couch checkout on every platform.
- Quiet multi-view screens take less bandwidth so the one you are listening to stays sharp.
1.8.0 · September 6, 2026
- A 14-day free trial of everything in KimberPlay Plus on every new install, then a Free plan that keeps the player, the guide, search and your favorites.
- Buy from the couch: scan the QR code on the paywall or in Settings, pay on your phone, and the TV unlocks itself.
- Cloud Sync (Plus): playlists, favorites, channel groups, guide offset and continue watching sync between supported Fire TV and Android TV devices using a paid key. Settings are encrypted using the license key, which the service also stores.
- Record every episode: hold OK on a programme in the Guide; a Series Rules tab in Recordings sets how many to keep.
- Match frame rate (Cinema mode) and pause live TV, with catch-up resume on channels that offer an archive.
- The TV Guide is rebuilt: five times smoother scrolling, titles that stay readable on long programmes, page and number keys, and it opens on a group that actually has guide data.
1.7.1 · September 5, 2026
- The app keeps a local safety copy and attempts to restore it on first launch. Recovery depends on the copy surviving the reinstall or update; keep a separate exported backup.
1.7.0 · September 5, 2026
- The updater is rebuilt: downloads resume after a dropped connection, the release notes show before you install and again on the first launch of the new version.
1.6.0 · September 4, 2026
- Home leads with New Movies and New Episodes when your provider adds titles.
- An anonymous launch ping (device model, library size, which features get used — never your playlist or what you watch) so we can see what to fix first.
1.5.2 · August 30, 2026
- In-app updates now install reliably on every supported Android version, including the oldest Fire TV Sticks, with clear guidance when Android needs your permission first.
- Update downloads are verified and reused — a permission round-trip never downloads twice.
- A calmer, more premium default look: the interface goes quiet so your content stands out, and the vivid highlight appears only where your remote is focused.
- Honest error messages throughout the updater — nothing says 'check your connection' unless the network actually failed.
1.5.1 · August 28, 2026
- Long-press menus no longer pick the first item by themselves — hold OK as long as you like.
- After Dark cleanup: only real adult categories land there, classic movies stay in the main library, and a long press can move any title in or out yourself.
- Watch history in After Dark can now be deleted with a long press.
- Sharper sports channel matching and guide name matching.
1.5.0 · August 27, 2026
- Guide overhaul: denser cable-box rows, freshness indicator, and automatic guide matching for channels with missing or wrong tvg-ids.
- Assign any guide to any channel by hand in two clicks.
- Sports Hub precision: pressing Watch on a game now ranks your channels by how certainly they carry that exact broadcast.
- Guide auto-refresh on a schedule, plus a launch top-up when data runs low.
